5 cockroach treatment methods: what actually works

1. Gel baits

The most effective method against the German cockroach. The gel is carried back to the nest and poisons the colony in cascade. Professional gels are more concentrated and better placed than retail versions: under appliances, in crevices, along observed runways.

2. Sprays and bug bombs

Useful for killing a visible insect, counterproductive against an infestation: they scatter the colony into other rooms or units and contaminate surfaces without reaching the nests. Total-release "bombs" are the most common mistake we see at clients' homes.

3. Sanitation

No treatment holds if cockroaches keep access to food and water. Airtight containers, cleaning under appliances, fixing leaks, managing garbage: sanitation does not kill the colony, but it makes every other method more effective.

4. Home remedies

Diatomaceous earth, boric acid, sticky traps: these options reduce activity at the edges but do not eliminate an established colony. Sticky traps remain useful as a monitoring tool to see where activity concentrates.

5. Professional treatment

Inspection to locate harbourages, professional gel bait, growth regulators that break the breeding cycle and follow-up until elimination: it is the only approach that fixes an established infestation, especially in multi-unit buildings where coordination matters.
